Overview

TAMA's Mike Portnoy Signature Snare Drum - Limited Edition brings the look of Portnoy's current "Dream Monster" kit into a standalone signature snare. The model number is MP1455BUN, and the shell keeps the same core recipe as Mike's current signature snare: 8mm, 9-ply bubinga in a 14" x 5.5" format.

The design angle is straightforward: dark, powerful bubinga tone, paired with 8-hole die-cast hoops for a more focused, articulate attack, then wrapped in a hand-painted limited finish where bright white flows into rich purple sparkle. TAMA notes that no two drums are exactly alike.

What stands out

Two details make this release more than just a cosmetic variant. First, the full bubinga shell and die-cast hoops point toward a dense, forceful snare voice with crisp attack. Second, TAMA's 3-Way Tension Adjustable Strainer can switch between tight, loose, and off on the fly, which gives the drum a wider practical range while playing.
