Toontrack's Infinity Grid EZX is a drum expansion built for modern and progressive metal, created in collaboration with Jay Postones (TesseracT). It includes three distinct kits designed to cover everything from heavy, crushing impact to detailed articulation for more intricate parts.
The drums were recorded in Nashville at Sound Stage Studios (Back Stage room) by engineer Steve Blackmon, aiming for a room sound that keeps drums big and alive without washing out fast, technical playing.
A big part of the character comes from the preset collection: Toontrack highlights layered one-shot enhancements on kicks and snares to add attack and clarity while preserving the natural multi-sampled tone. You still get "original mix" options if you want a cleaner, more raw kit sound.
Alongside the drum sounds, the expansion includes a basic MIDI library of grooves and fills performed by Jay Postones - a quick way to sketch metal-leaning parts and practice.
Requirements: works inside EZdrummer 3 or Superior Drummer 3.
Why it matters: if you write or practice heavy music, this EZX is basically "plug and go" - modern metal tone, tight punch, and ready-made grooves without spending hours dialing in the basics.
