Toontrack’s Dry EZX is an EZX expansion built around one idea: maximum punch with minimal room. The kits were recorded in a small, low-ceilinged space with heavy damping, so the drums stay tight and up-front instead of washing out in ambience.
You get four curated kits designed to cover a wide “dry” palette — from earthy and warm to snappy and slightly pingy — plus mix-ready presets for each kit and a basic set of backbeat-centric MIDI grooves and fills.
A standout touch is Toontrack’s “sampled in tandem” approach for selected instruments: two drummers played simultaneously across every velocity layer, creating natural flams and tiny imperfections that add movement without sounding programmed.
Why it matters
Dry drums are a cheat code for mixes: they leave space for vocals and guitars, take compression well, and can be pushed into modern pop/hip-hop punch or kept intimate for indie and singer-songwriter tracks.
Requirements / compatibility
- Requires EZdrummer 3 or Superior Drummer 3.
- Toontrack lists version requirements: EZdrummer 3.1.2+ or Superior Drummer 3.4.1+.
- Disk/RAM guidance: 2.3 GB free space (plus download) and 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended).
